Bastrop is the county seat, sits on the Colorado River, and is surrounded by the Lost Pines. It is the easternmost city on this site and the ground here is the friendliest we work with.
Sandy soil, straightforward runs
Bastrop’s soils are sandy Lost Pines ground and river alluvium rather than the clay of the eastern prairie or the limestone of the west. Trenching is genuinely easy.
For a run to a detached garage, a shop or a pedestal, this is the best-case scenario in the service area. If you have compared notes with someone in Dripping Springs or Lakeway and been baffled by the cost difference on a similar job, the answer is entirely underground.
Sandy ground brings a different detail: backfill and compaction matter more, because loose sand settles. Conduit gets bedded properly rather than dropped in and covered.
Bluebonnet supply
Bastrop is Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative territory. Member rather than customer, and the cooperative’s own procedure for anything involving the service itself.
The Austin Energy home charging rebate does not extend here — it belongs to Austin Energy customers, and Bastrop County is well outside that territory. We have not confirmed a current Bluebonnet charging incentive from a primary source, so we do not quote one. If you are a member, it is a question worth putting to them directly, and we will work with whatever the answer is.
Two housing pictures
Downtown Bastrop is a genuine historic district with residential streets carrying stock well over a century old in places. Services there are sized to their era, the load calculation does real diagnostic work, and where equipment or conduit will be visible from the street the appearance is worth agreeing in advance.
Tahitian Village, Pine Forest, The Colony and the newer development are a different proposition — modern services, garage-wall panels, headroom usually already present.
Both exist within a few minutes of each other, so we establish which one applies rather than inferring from the town.
River proximity
Properties near the Colorado benefit from the easy digging and inherit a consideration alongside it: the mounting height of outdoor equipment on lower-lying lots is worth deciding deliberately rather than by convenience. We raise it at the survey and design to what applies at the specific address.
Distance on the rural properties
Outside the town, Bastrop County is acreage. Long runs to outbuildings are common, and conductors get sized against the measured distance so a charger at the far end of a few hundred feet is not quietly underfed. Where an outbuilding already carries load, a subpanel there is often the better design.
Backup power
Rural properties here sit well out on the distribution network, and where a well pump is involved the case for backup strengthens considerably. Propane is the usual fuel for a generator outside the town.

The City of Bastrop issues permits inside the limits; unincorporated addresses go to Bastrop County.
