Cedar Park is a good example of why we ask for the bill rather than the address. The city sits across a utility boundary, and two houses a few streets apart can be served by different providers with different processes.
Which utility serves you here?
Cedar Park addresses fall into Oncor territory and, toward the western and northern edges, into Pedernales Electric Cooperative territory. The line follows service territory, not the city limit, and it has never matched anyone’s intuition about where the city ends.
The distinction is practical rather than academic. Oncor is a delivery utility on the competitive market, so you choose a retail provider separately and Oncor handles anything involving the meter or a service upgrade. PEC is a member cooperative with its own process for the same work.
Neither carries the Austin Energy rebate, which is available to Austin Energy customers and does not extend into Williamson County regardless of which of the two serves you.
We read the top of the bill before quoting anything that depends on it, and we would rather do that than guess from a street name.
The panel is usually cooperative
Buttercup Creek, Cypress Canyon, Twin Creeks and the Ranch at Brushy Creek were largely built from the early nineties onward with 200-amp services. Panels sit on garage walls, runs are short, and the load calculation normally confirms there is room.
Anderson Mill West and the older pockets nearer the Williamson–Travis line are the exception worth checking. Some of that stock predates the pattern and was built to a lighter standard, and it is exactly the sort of address where an assumption based on the neighbourhood name produces a wrong quote.
The ground changes across the city
Cedar Park sits close enough to the Balcones escarpment that the soil profile shifts noticeably from one side of the city to the other. Eastward there is workable cover. Westward, toward the Cypress Creek and Cedar Park Ranchettes side, the limestone comes up and a trench to a detached structure takes on the character of the jobs we do in Leander and Lakeway.
For an attached garage with a short interior run, none of this matters. For a run out to a shop, a pedestal or a second parking position, it is the difference between an afternoon and something longer, so it gets looked at.
Permits
The City of Cedar Park issues the electrical permit and schedules the inspection. Addresses just outside the limits fall to Williamson County, and the boundary here is genuinely irregular — worth confirming rather than assuming, because the fee and the scheduling differ.
