Bee Cave installations are rarely limited by the panel. They are limited by what sits between the panel and where the car parks.
Rock is the starting assumption
Bee Cave is Hill Country. Edwards limestone with thin cover is the normal condition rather than the exception, and any run that leaves the building envelope should be priced on that basis until a survey says otherwise.
This produces a specific pattern in what we quote. Two houses of similar size and value, both with modern 200-amp panels, can differ substantially — not because of the electrical work, which is identical, but because one charger goes on the garage wall six feet from the panel and the other needs eighty feet of trench through rock to reach a detached structure.
We look before we price. It is the only honest way to quote work here.
Where the rock makes a run genuinely expensive, the alternatives are worth discussing before committing: repositioning the charger, routing inside the structure, or reconsidering which parking position the car uses. Any of those can be cheaper than cutting.
Large lots mean long runs
Beyond the excavation, distance itself is a design factor. Spanish Oaks, Uplands and the larger Falconhead lots regularly put the parking position well beyond what a standard installation assumes.
Voltage drops over distance. A circuit correct at the breaker can arrive at the charger marginal, and the result is charging that is slower or less consistent than it should be with no obvious fault to point at. Conductors get sized against the measured run rather than against the breaker rating alone.
Pedernales territory
Bee Cave is served by Pedernales Electric Cooperative. You are a member rather than a customer, and anything involving the service itself follows the cooperative’s process.
The Austin Energy home charging rebate does not extend here. It belongs to Austin Energy customers, and proximity to Austin is not the test — the provider on your bill is. We will not quote a rebate figure for a PEC address without having confirmed a current cooperative programme.
Outdoor mounting and heat
Where a charger goes on an exterior wall — common here, with detached garages and carport parking — orientation matters. A west-facing elevation in this climate reaches surface temperatures that will make a unit reduce its output on summer afternoons. That is the unit protecting itself rather than failing, but it is avoidable by choosing a shaded elevation at installation, which costs nothing then and cannot be fixed cheaply later.
Hardwiring rather than a receptacle is the better answer for exterior positions here, for sealing reasons as much as electrical ones.

The City of Bee Cave issues the permit and schedules the inspection. Surrounding unincorporated addresses fall to Travis County.
