Lago Vista sits on the north shore of Lake Travis, well out from the urban core, on steep and rocky ground. Two things follow from that: the trench is a real cost item, and backup power is a normal part of the conversation.
Restoration takes longer out here
Lago Vista sits at the end of long distribution runs. After a regional weather event — an ice storm, a severe summer front — restoration to communities at the edge of the network takes longer than it does closer in.
That is why generator and battery enquiries here arrive at a rate you would not see in Round Rock, and usually framed as practical rather than aspirational. A household that has sat through a multi-day outage does not need the case made.
Where a generator is the answer, the pad and fuel-line excavation runs into the same limestone as the electrical trench, so it is worth surveying both at once. Where a battery is the answer, the critical-loads subpanel conversation matters more than the headline capacity.
Rock, on a slope
The terrain above the lake is steep and the limestone is close to the surface. A run to a detached garage or a lakeside parking position is an excavation rather than a trench, and the gradient makes it slower again.
We survey the route before quoting. On lots that fall away from the street, the shortest path on a plan is frequently not the practical one, and the design gets decided on site rather than on paper.
Mixed housing stock, mixed services
Lago Vista’s housing spans decades. Original 1970s and 1980s lake properties sit alongside recent construction, and the electrical services vary just as widely.
The older stock in particular was often built as weekend property rather than as a full-time residence, with services sized accordingly. Where such a house is now somebody’s permanent home with modern cooling and appliances, the headroom for a charging circuit may simply not be there.
The load calculation does genuine diagnostic work here. We would rather establish the answer before quoting than discover it on the day.
Pedernales territory
Lago Vista is served by Pedernales Electric Cooperative — you are a member rather than a customer, and service work follows the cooperative’s process.
The Austin Energy home charging rebate does not extend here. Being in Travis County is not the test; the provider on the bill is. We will not quote a rebate figure for a PEC address without a confirmed current programme from the cooperative.
Long driveways
Lots here are generous and driveways can be long. Voltage drop over distance is checked rather than assumed, so a charger at the far end of a run receives what the breaker suggests it should.

The City of Lago Vista issues the permit and schedules the inspection. Surrounding unincorporated addresses go to Travis County.
