Spicewood is the deepest Hill Country address on this site, and it produces the longest runs and the hardest excavation we do. If a job here is going to be expensive, the reason is almost always the ground rather than the electrics.
The hardest rock in the service area
Spicewood sits on hard Edwards limestone with very little soil over it. Trenching in the ordinary sense frequently is not possible — a run leaving the building means cutting.
That is the dominant cost variable, and it is why quoting this area from a description does not work. A hundred-and-fifty-foot run from a panel to a detached shop is a genuinely different proposition here than the same distance in Manor or Hutto, and the difference is measured in days rather than percentages.
Where the excavation cost becomes disproportionate, the alternatives deserve a serious look: routing inside existing structures, repositioning the charger, or accepting a different parking position. On several jobs out here the best answer has been to move the charger rather than to cut the rock.
Distance, and voltage drop
Acreage properties put real distance between the service and the parking position. On runs of a few hundred feet, conductor sizing against the breaker rating alone is not adequate — voltage arrives at the charger measurably lower than it left, and the result is charging that underperforms without any identifiable fault.
We calculate for the actual distance. On the longer runs that means heavier conductor than people expect, and it is the difference between a circuit that works properly and one that quietly disappoints for a decade.
Mixed stock, unpredictable services
Spicewood spans older lake and ranch properties, some of them modest and decades old, alongside substantial recent construction in Summit Rock and Barton Creek Lakeside.
Service sizes vary accordingly and are not predictable from the address or the lot. The load calculation is doing genuine diagnostic work, and on the older properties it often finds a service that was adequate for a weekend house and is not adequate for a permanent residence with a car attached to it.

Backup power is close to standard
Spicewood is a long way out on the distribution network, and restoration after regional weather is slow. Generators and battery systems come up in the majority of conversations here.
For generators, propane is usually the fuel — natural gas mains do not reach most of these properties — and tank sizing becomes part of the design rather than an afterthought. The pad excavation meets exactly the same rock as the electrical trench, so both get surveyed together.
Permits
Unincorporated, so the county permits it — Travis or Burnet depending on where the property falls, and the line is not obvious from a Spicewood mailing address.
